Im in grade 8, ussualy highly mature compared to other in my grade and older then myself. I cant concentrate in my school, class, learning enviroment whatever. I asked my mom if i had ADD she said no my Dr. said no. I do great on state tests but terrible on classroom tests.

I just think it would be easier for me and my parents if I could teach myself in an enviroment where I will pay attention and actually absorb an education.

So my question actually is can I only be homeschooled by a parent or can I do so myself? How would go about this? Im in WI if that helps any.

yes you can. I have a 16 year old sister and she has been homeschooling for 3 years, basically for the same reasons as you. For two years she took Calvert School program in Maryland. Now she is just doing 10-11-12 in correspondance, it can be expensive about 1500$ a year. But she likes it and she will be able to get into university just like anyone else. ANd she does teach herself, my mom does like to be involved though so they discuss it a lot when my mom is not working. Just go to your guidance councellor and tak about your situation they should be able to give you all the info you need.

Yes you can homeschool yourself, you don't need a parent to be homeschooled. Actually after a certain point -about eighth grade- parents just get in the way.

Look in to cyber school maybe, that could work. There are programs where you get sent a laptop, books and assignments and you can just get everything done right away.

Or maybe you can get a curriculum from the school and follow that.

Or you could do what I do -called unschooling- and not have a curriculum. You just prepare yourself for the life you know you want to lead.

Homeschooling is a lot of fun, the only hard part is that people won't understand and will be really stupid about it. That can be hard to deal with but such is life.

In the end learning itself isn't hard or boring. Learning is fun and easy but all these blocks we put in front of it mess it up. In the end you will turn out fine.

Socially it's not hard. All you have to do is be a little proactive about your social life. You aren't going to be locked in a building with a thousand other kids so you have to actually go look. It's really no big deal; I have plenty of friends. Even if you're a good artist, join a teenaged art class and make friends there. Join a homeschooling group and you'll make friends there. Really if you just live your life you'll make friends.

I was home schooled all the way until I went to college. I did not have a problem doing well once I got to college. However, you want to have a very well rounded education. To achieve this you must be thorough. You COULD homeschool yourself, but the temptation would be to cut corners when it comes to subjects that are not very interesting. Subsequently, when you get to college this could pose a bit of a problem. I would suggest that before you homeschool yourself you acquire all of the necessary books. Math, science, history and grammar are the four that you absolutely need to have. On top of that you should try to include at least one elective that interests you. If you do this, at least you will have a balanced education. You should also have some one that you know that can help you if you begin to struggle in one of the categories. This usually happens with either Math or Grammar. You have to mentally prepare yourself to never give up. I wish you the best of luck! Education is very important and can be very fun. I really do hope that you find what you are looking for!

I have been homeschooled my whole life. From grades 1-7 my mom taught me. This year I'm feeling more independent so I'm doing Cyber School. It's less expensive for me mom and more fun for me! I think you should at least try it out and if you don't like it you can always do something else. (Cyber/Charter Schools are basically the same thing). I'm doing one for Pennsylvania called PA Cyber and we're using Lincon Interactive. I've heard that the Calvert one is also a good one. You should join a Yahoo! group for homeschoolers, they could help you pick the right school.

The quick answer is yes and no. First, it depends your parents - are they ok with it? Second, it depends on the laws in your state. Third, it depends on your age - if you're 8-10, I'd say, no way. If you're 15 or older, I'd probably say OK. My older son (11) works pretty independently on some subjects, while I oversee/teach others. Of course, I always check his work, so he's never completely independent. Yes, there are independent study courses available both on-line and for home use (Switched-On Schoolhouse from Alpha Omega comes to mind). So it is possible to 'teach yourself'.

If your parents are still willing to be legally responsible, because ultimately they will be and may need to sign forms and all that, but are also willing to allow you to do your own thing, then yes, you can homeschool yourself. You would need to decide if you really wanted to do your own thing or get a recognized high school diploma and all that, which would include the possibility of doing an online program.

How To Homeschool Yourself

I have that same problem. I need a special environment to learn my way.

I suggest an online homeschool, K12. (k12.com for more info)
They give you lessons and such, but you get to control most of it. They send you all the materials you would need, and a computer, so it's pretty awesome. And free. That's cool too.

So if you consider homeschooling, check out the website.

yes I home school myself with a little help from a tutor, but I mostly do it alone. I even taught my self English. so you can do it, but you may need your parents to sign a form for the education board. that is what they had to do with me. Have your mom or day or your self call the board of education in your area they will let you know what to do.
