there is a community college in a neighboring city. Do you think she could possibly take some classes to work toward her associate degree while still in high school? (classes such as art, technology)

It's come up more than once, this idea that homeschoolers are somehow 'not doing their duty' to help improve public schools. Why is it our duty? And who says? Public education is the government fulfilling its requirements. It is not mandatory for the public. I would think we would have more of a duty to the homeless and poor and sick than to some government-run institution, wouldn't we? (And certainly to our own children before the government!)

Do those who think homeschooling parents are not doing their duty to public education also condemn those who send their kids to private schools? If not, why not?

Isn't trying to change a system you don't want to be a part of like trying to change a church or religion you don't want to be a part of?

Furthermore, who says that the system could ever meet what many homeschooling parents envision for their kids?

Sometimes I feel like one. I am in 7th grade and have been homeschooling for 5 years. Soooooo am I missing out on something great by homeschooling and not going to a public school? Will things be better or worse when I do go to public school (next year)? Will I be out of touch and be unable to fit in? Is public schooling harder then homeschooling? People always tell me how lucky I am to homeschool. I sure don't feel that way. Help?

I'm thinking about home schooling my son. It won't happen for another 5 years. He's pretty small. My wife has a job that involves a lot of moving and I want to stay flexible but with excellent quality education regardless of the where he gets it. I just don't want to torpedo his chances of going to a great college just because he's home schooled.

I want to find out more about homeschooling! I'm from Romania, and it's not yet legal this homeschooling thing, but by the next year it will surely be! So I want to know more about home schooling! I hate public school! I always did! So I need to find out about homeschooling. I have a few questions:
1. Do you get to choose the teachers that will come at your house for the lessons, or they are sent by someone else?
2. Do you have an exact schedule or you can change it the way you want? I read on a site that you can choose how long every class will be. Is that true?
3. Is it expensive? How much would I have to pay?
4. What exactly do you have to do to pass from public school to home school? What do you have to do? Can you tell me step by step? I really don't know!
And, if there is anything else you have to say about homeschooling, say it! If there is anything else I have to know, please tell me about it!

(And if you want to answer these also: What differences do you see between homeschoolers and kids who go to public/private school? And what do you think about homeschoolers?)

Mostly please answer "Are you a homeschooler" although the others are great too.

I hear from a lot of people that they plan to home school their children up to a certain grade level (middle school, high school). What i'd like to know is how is the transition for kids at that age? I know changing schools is hard enough at 12 or 14 years old but what is the experience like to go from a classroom of one or two (or more if it is a co-op) to a classroom of 25 (and more considering our middle school has 1600 kids)? Is it a tough adjustment - I mean, that is a hard age to start at with less focus on one child, not to mention the cliques.
If you could please share your experiences with me, both academic and social. It is an option that I'm exploring for my son.
Thank you for taking time to answer this.

We are in Texas and I have been planning on homeschooling my oldest son. I have done alot of research on it for the past year. My son is in the 4th grade and has Aspergers Syndrome He does so much better one on one than he does in a classroom. He has always had teachers that help him and do great and he made great grades, however , this year his teacher doesnt seem to care, .or want to help and he is making bad grades. I even wrote her a note the other day asking about his progress and told her to call me to let me know, but she still has yet to respond. Im so stressed right now because Im pregnant, at risk of preterm labor, already been in the hospital and now Im on bedrest, so I cant go up to the school to talk to anyone. Before I ended up on Bedrest I went to talk to the Assistant Principal, but that didnt seem to help. ANYWAYS, enough of that. I just wanted to explain whats going on. Is it ok to take him out of school now, or should I let him finish out the year? Thanks

I have a 7 yr, 5 yr, 3 yr, 2 yr, and 3 week old infant. I'm fairly new at homeschooling (was public school teacher before--amazingly I think it was easier!) and am having a horrible time figuring out what to do for a "schedule". My newborn is obviously not on any schedule yet so naptimes are spurratic and I nurse so feeding times are on demand rather than the every 2 hour thing. He sleeps for about 20 minutes at a time unless being help. My 2 and 3 yr olds are constantly disrupting or simply off tearing something up so therefore my 7 yr old is getting no decent amount of schooling and my 5 yr old simply entertains himself most of the day. I feel like at the end of the day the only thing I've accomplished is chased the little ones around and cleaned up mess after mess. This is really not how it used to be homeschooling and so I know it can go better I just really need some ideas of what is going wrong now and how to fix it. Maybe some scheduling ideas? Entertaining little ones?

overwhelming evidence to the contrary? This subject has been addressed several times on this site.

Home school students have more than sufficient opportunity and more time than their public school counterparts to interact socially:

Universities and Employers name social skills as one of the most important reasons for recruiting homeschool students:
