there is a community college in a neighboring city. Do you think she could possibly take some classes to work toward her associate degree while still in high school? (classes such as art, technology)

The most likely answer is yes, this is possible. However, check with the community college to see what their requirements are. Our local CC has a "college start" program open to any high school juniors and seniors in the area. I've heard many of the students finish high school with only a few credits left to complete their associates' degree.

Yes,
first talk to the admissions department and ask them what they require. Some college allow enrollment of High Schoolers. Otherwise, there is an option to take a class without "credit" or as an "audit". This will prepare her for the college atmosphere, the style of teaching and learning that she will need to acquire, make some friends, maybe get her "foot in" so that when she does graduate, she will already have proven herself.

Classes that would come into question at first are those she is STRONG in...not something she does NOT know yet. If she likes to read and write, get her a poetry interpretation class or an english literature class. If she is very good in Biology, get her into the first Intro to Biology class she can attend that offers a lab. If she has no particular gifts or inclinations, have her read thru the catalog under "general requirements" maybe under the Social Studies or the Arts for something she would like to try. Again, I emphasize that she should take just one class in her first semester, along with her usual homescholling courses (minus the one she is doing at college)

See the administrator, and an advisor. She should also take an SAT or an ACT so that the admissions department can properly ascertain her abilities.

I don't really think homeschooling is the solution. Are you going to pull her out of school every time she gets a boyfriend? I recommend laying down the law. Punish her when she breaks rules. Take away her electronics, or whatever it is that she values most, and then punish until she learns she must obey the rules. To answer your question, yes you can start homeschooling anytime. Your daughter will NOT have to repeat 7th grade if she homeschools the rest of the year.

I've heard of a number of high school homeschoolers in the US doing this. A friend of mine who moved from here (in Canada) to L.A. had her son taking college classes at 15 or 16 while still finishing his diploma. He just had to take some test or something so that they were sure he could handle the work. In Canada, we don't have that sort of thing. At least, certainly not here in Alberta!

yea, that's what i'm doing right now. It works really good. I love taking the college classes, and they are pretty easy compared to my high school classes too:) It's a great way to get some of the harder college classes out of the way. And I know at least at the college I'm taking my classes at, they are a TON cheaper for high school students than if you were actually a college student.

Absolutely. Let her take community college courses while still in high-school. In fact, encourage her to complete her Associate's degree or all Gen-Ed courses before she graduates highschool! It is possible, and it will get her on the fast track to success.

Yes, In one of my classes there were 3 tweens that were home-schooled and now they're on their own. Community college is a good start. Good Job mom!
