If you don't get a diploma, you can get a GED, which is a test you take and it's the equivalent to a diploma. If you don't get either, you are very, very limited in the jobs you can get, and it will get worse over time. Make sure you graduate or get a GED!!!

You know this is in the homeschooling section, right? You should maybe ask in the Primary and Secondary Education section.

Lots of people go to high school and don't get a diploma. But they are considered to not have officially graduated; drop-outs, essentially.

People do get jobs without diplomas, even get into college. Skills and drive can make or break a person, with or without a diploma.

You don't have to get a diploma if you go to a public school, you can drop out-- not necessarily recommended, but if it's imminently important to you (given family/personal situations) it might happen. If you get your GED (which would be fantastic!), you might have the stigma of a person who didn't get their diploma and had to get a GED, unfortunately. Regardless, think about the jobs you'd like to have. Your involvement in school might give you an edge above the other applicants if your extracurricular activities are similar to the job you want. Maximize your strengths. You can also hire a job placement specialist if you are interested in a job that you might not otherwise be qualified for.

are you asking 'if you graduate from high school, MUST you accept the diploma?' NO, its just a piece of paper, graduation is a ceremony, like baptism, its how you live, how you function in the world that matters more than ceremony and titles
are you asking about high school dropouts? they still get jobs, menial jobs. They can still (and do) start their own business and can be successful. I know a dozens who are landscappers, roofers, chefs, cooks, truck drivers
like everything else, it up to the person
it better to have the diploma, than not; people understand what a diploma is, it means you can probably add, subtract, read a little, and MOST IMPORTANT, you're more likely to show up everyday if hired, you just had 12 years of practice!
