I've got a Master's degree in a profession that I don't intend to stay in. I have heard many people say that a Master's degree--in any subject--can open doors to better, higher level jobs in unrelated professions.

In your experience, is this true? How does one pursue a completely different profession than what he or she studied? How would you justify to employers why you pursued the degree you did and why they should hire you and pay you more to do something completely different?

Alright, I just got my first paper back from my first college class. I noticed that the teacher had marked one of my sentences as being a fragment. I can not figure out how it would be a fragment and I am pretty convinced that it is not.
In context it would read...

"I had hooked a large fish and I was beginning to fight it. Not in a literal way, but in my head it was a battle." (second sentence being the 'fragment')

I realize that this sentence is inverted and it makes it sound a little awkward, but I really don't think it is a fragment. When you flip it you get "In my head it was a battle, but not in a literal way"

So would this really be a sentence fragment?

one I get along with and two that I don't like. Anyways the one's that I don't like use dishes but never wash them until like a month later and when they wash their stuff if I have something in the sink they leave it there. I used to wash all the dishes no matter if they were mine or not but I stopped that because they never washed my dishes. So anyways I cooked last night and I fell asleep without cleaning the kitchen. Today I went in the kitchen and one of my roommates had put a sign on the wall that said "please keep the kitchen clean." I couldn't believe this because the girl who put it up leaves her dishes sitting on the counter or stove for a month before she washes them. I washed my dishes wiped the counter and stove down with bleach and left her dirty dishes sitting on the counter, then she came in the house talking about I could've washed her dishes. Why doesn't she understand that I don't have to was

I am going to attend the University of Arizona next fall, and I am already planning on joining a sorority. I'm not quite sure how competitive the greek scene is at UofA, but I really want to know if it will be absolutely necessary for me to have a recommendation? All of the sororities claim it is optional, but you know how that goes...! I really don't know anyone that has been in a sorority before to write a recommendation. Does anyone have any ideas or information that would be useful

My daughter is planning to transfer to UC from community college with biology major. She fulfilled her requirements in CC which means that when she later apply to Pharmacy or Medical school, they would notice that all their prerequisites have been taken in CC. Should she retake these classes in the University or not? (O-Chem, Biology, etc.). Will it be even possible?

I am currently in pursuit of getting my B.S of Nursing, and eventually want to get my masters to work in neo-natal and be a nurse practitioner. I was wondering, if I decide later on in my career to become a doctor, is any of the schooling transferrable from Nursing to Med school? Or if you have your masters of nursing, can anything transfer into med school? I can not find this answer anywhere. Please only people who know what they're talking about answer this.

I am currently a freshman Biology major at a university, and I am considering becoming a doctor. However, I find public health very intriguing because I want to be involved at the international level, especially with US-Chinese relations. Although this is quite superficial, I would like to ask how much financial success with one of these jobs offer? So far, the highest I have seen is about $100,000 a year. Are there any famous people in the Public health arena? Also, I am interested in business. Does public health carry a business component? Do public health majors ever start their own companies?

Thanks.

do you think it is mandatory that a college president (like at Harvard, Boston College, etc) needs to have a phd or equivelant degree? What are your reasons?

Could someone without a degree do just as good of a job as someone with a degree?

All seem to fit what I want, just want to know which would be best. I don't think any are ranked. About me:

3.45 GPA/4.0 in major (undergraduate)
3.85 GPA in paralegal diploma program at NYU
will have a little more than 2yrs. experience with one of the largest corporate law firms in the world.
-great recommendations, hopefully good essays
-should score close to or just over 600 on GMAT

I'm 20 years old and a junior at Georgia Tech. I'm majoring in Civil Engineering and have completed 71 of 128 credits toward my major. I have a 3.94 GPA and am receiving all kinds of honors because of it. However there is one problem, I'm no longer interested in my major and I have no idea what to do about it. I had an internship in the field of Civil Engineering last summer and I've decided that I don't want to do that type of work after college. I'm more interested in kinesiology, which Tech does not offer. I fear that transferring is out of the question at this point because I'm so far into my major and that my parents would be extremely opposed.
I realize that lots of people don't end up using their majors in their jobs, but I'm still wondering what I can do now to help my situation. If I were to finish my degree at Tech could I use that to get into a kinesiology program somewhere? Or would my degree be a waste? Anyone with a similar story, what happened / what did you do? Thanks!

I graduated w/ a BA in Journalism from a small state school in NJ, can I get into a decent law program, even though I came from small school? I've been looking at Rutgers law school or NYU....what is law school like? Is it feasible to go to law school b/c I don't intend on doing any litigation. Right now, I'm just weighing my options -- any ideas or opinions....thanks!

My daughter is hard working, and intelligent and has maintained a GPA of 3.9, she appeared in MCAT last month but because of poor testing conditions in the examination hall (I have officially lodged a complaint about it with MCAT authorities) , she could get only 23 aggregate in MCAT. Do you think she stands any chance to get in medical school anywhere ,or she should just not apply this year and should start preparing for the next year?

Well i'm currently in community college getting basics out the way but i don't know if I can go directly to Texas A&M. I have 28 credits and they only require 24 but all the classes I chose arn't under my major (blame my dad for that one). I have a 3.9 gpa at my community college and a decent high school transcript. Their deadline is march so i'd have to wait a whole year to apply again if i took some classes next spring. Do you think i can get in? Thanks in advance.

Growing up I worked in a local pharmacy. I'm kicking myself for not going to pharmacy school. I just remembering thinking they didn't make that much money and the job didn't seem too exciting. I thought they made $50k or so back around 1990. Now RPH's are making $100k+. When did the salary/market for RPHs change?
