My daughter is hard working, and intelligent and has maintained a GPA of 3.9, she appeared in MCAT last month but because of poor testing conditions in the examination hall (I have officially lodged a complaint about it with MCAT authorities) , she could get only 23 aggregate in MCAT. Do you think she stands any chance to get in medical school anywhere ,or she should just not apply this year and should start preparing for the next year?

Your daughter is an adult. LET GO. If she has the maturity and capability to go to med school, SHE needs to be the one to solve her problems. I know where she's coming from. I'm applying to medical school, too, and I had to tell my parents to BACK OFF.

If you go complain to AAMC, AMCAS and the schools on her behalf, the schools will see that your daughter can't do anything without having her hand held. This will NOT look good for admissions. Med schools want strong, mature individuals who can lead, who can solve their problem, who can function independently.

Tell your daughter to retest. Also have her consider schools in the Caribbean like St. George's University and Ross. Leave the rest up to her.

It depends on what state you live in. She has a shot at D.O programs, which if you don't know anything about, you should look into it. They are fully practicing physicians, and chances are you've been treated by one. Most M.D. programs have a bit higher standard for the MCAT, though. If her weakest point was verbal, she has a shot. I would have her apply to just a few schools she wants to attend, and save your money. The important thing is that she will not know unless she applies.

Pretty high.. but be careful because a school may see a high MCAT and a low GPA as an intelligent student who doesn't try. Even if that's not what you're about, that may be how they see you. I would say 34p-35p

It's pretty clear that a 23 looks ridiculously horrible. She should retest and MAKE SURE TO DO BETTER. If it's even a similar score, that would look really, really terrible. A drastically improved result could easily explain away the first, but in the interview, you have to make sure you don't sound desperate or like a person who lives through making excuses in life. Strength of character is the most desirable trait in this world, through others eyes at least.

Your complaint is going no place unless there were many more from the group she was in. There may be some schools in some of the South American countries she could apply to.
