She is 22 and a senior in Graphic Design at the University. She got a C+ in the most important class in her major (which is considered failing) and will not graduate on time. She feels that the teacher is being unduly harsh with her and has written an email to her her advisor (who is also the teacher of the class). She feels she is only points away from a passing grade which would be a B-. She is prepared to go higher up if her teacher is not reasonable. She asked me if I'd help her out if need be and I told her that I was sorry for her misfortune and that I thought she deserved a much better grade. Since she is 22 and a senior, the university may frown upon her mother going to bat for her and I'm sure she could do this all on her own and assured her that she could. Told her this was a setback and if she needed to retake the class she could. She was really upset and said I don't support her because I won't help her speak to the faculty.

I struggled with major depression my sophmore year and failed 8 classes that year. That was a year ago and I have since raised my cumulative GPA to a 2.5 (not high but I am working on it little by little, it takes a while because of the F's). The last 2 semesters I was on the dean's list. Are these F's going to ruin my chances of graduate school? I still have 2 more years to go and will be able to get my GPA up to at least a 3.0 by then. Thanks for the advice. I realize I made a big mistake that year but there is nothing I can do about it now other than try to work hard and move on.

I'm interested in applying to NYU for an MA program and would like to have a former professor of mine write me a letter because she received her PhD from NYU. The only thing that concerns me is that I had her for an Art History course, and I am interested in applying for an MA in a different field -- English Lit. Do you think I should ask her, or should I stick only with those professors whom I have had for English Literature classes? (None of those Professors whom I have had for English Lit classes attended NYU).

I'm a grade 12 student in BC, Canada. As graduation is approaching, I have to start making some decisions... except I'm utterly and completely LOST. I have no idea waht career to pursue in and what to take in post-secondary.

I'm interested in graphic design, but it seems childish to want to do that as a living - who doesn't know how to do graphic design these days? Things that have interested me are PHARMACY and OPTOMETRY. I'm looking for something that will allow me to have a steady income in the future, allowing me more time to spend on my own. What other careers/jobs/courses should I take? Any advice as to what I should do?

And I'd LOVE to hear something about actual practicing optometrists and/or pharmacists as well. Thanks!
