India is yet to reach, the standard of education, the US & U.k. have achieved. Except, a very few, we have not produced very many Technologists & Scientists. If you take invention, how many you will credit to India? Even the Nobel Prize winners, of Indian origin have mostly, studied in U.K or the U.S.

The reason why so many students choose the USA or the UK is that those two countries have a high reputation in higher education. For example, Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College in the UK, and Harvard, Yale, Columbia, in the USA, are amongst establishments in both countries with international reputations for excellence. Furthermore, in most countries from which 'overseas students' originate, English is the most widely spoken second language - hence it is easier for a potential student to come to the UK or the USA for higher education, than, say, a university in Sweden where only a few postgraduate degrees use English as the medium of study. There is also a desire amongst postgrad students for experience of life outside their own countries and, particularly for students from mainland China, a chance to experience the culture and business practises of the two main western countries with which strong commercial links are currently being established. .

yes, I agree that India has equally good universities. But sadly, the infrastructure in these universities is not that good and so the worldwide reputation of these universities barring IITs and IISc is very less. Most of the univs are not that famous or research or current work. Also, the opportunities in the US and UK are better during studies and after. In India, it is very difficult to get an on-campus job to support your studies. Out here, it is easy and becomes a part of life. And the job opportunities are vast here and not limited to your field of study. And the pay is better and the conveniences are more. So, in all, I guess this is why most people go abroad for higher studies.

Are you a US citizen or national, or have a US green card? If not, you will not have access to the government-backed student loans and grants that most American students use to pay for college. You will need to apply at the US consulate for a student visa. And in order to get that visa you will have to show them evidence that you have ALL of the money that you need to cover school and your living expenses while you are in the US. You could apply for scholarships through the universities, but most of these are open to Americans only. You will also not be permitted to work off campus to earn money to pay for school. Perhaps you could check whether there are scholarships available for UK students to study in the US from the American embassy. USAID or USIS program officers in the embassy should be able to give you info about such opportunities.
