Yes pharmacy or optometry would be a more stable profession than graphic arts, but if that is your passion , do not dismiss it so easily. You will need advanced degrees for both pharmacy and optometry. A pharmacist has a masters degree and an optometrist has a masters to Phd. An Opthamoligist has a medical degree and has done residency.

I agree that your first two years of post-secondary study are basic education requirements. In your 3rd year of school, you will be asked to declare a major field of study. If you are wanting to go into medicine, I would suggest a Biology or Chemistry major. Pharm School is tough to get into, because of the demand right now. Optometry is an awesome field to get into, but it does require you to go to Med School, then do a residency before you are allowed to work as an optomotrist.
Personally, I would go into Pharmacy. I have looked at many PharmD programs in the US, but have decided to go into Nursing. But, not all PharmD programs require a Bachelor's Degree for admittance. There is one in Glendale, AZ that only requires the equivalent of 2 years of prerequisites for admissions. Of course, there are approx 4000 applicants each year for 300 positions...and a lot of those applicants have a BS Degree already, so they are automatically given preference over the others.

Here is some advice for you.
The first 2 years of college are mostly going to be nothing but "required" classes. English, Algebra, Humanities. Don't decide right away. Get your basic courses out of the way.
While you are doing your basic courses, you can take some "audited" classes--those classes do not cost anything, nor are you required to do any work. However, by sitting in those classes you can get an idea of what you want to do, and what you do not want to do.
Hope this helps.

My mom works for an optomotrist and he does "alright", but not real well. I would suggest engineering. You seem like someone who is intersested in more that what Paris Hilton did today. I stumbled in to engineering after a failed college career as a chemist and a successfull military career. I've done a lot of things, and let me tell you, having people make your ideas into reality is really really cool. BTW... My cousin has a Masters in Graphic Design......she's a bartender.

Well, im somebody from a third world country. here we dont have much choices as you get in canada.please remind your self about that frequently.
best advice i can give is do what you are best at. if you are really good at graphic designing go for it. create something that nobody ever had even dreamt of.all of the things in the world have not been found yet, man kind has a long path ahead. so each of us has our contribution to humanity. so do what u got to do

Pharmacists are desperately needed in the United States. Most graduating pharmacists have jobs making six figures before they graduate. Pharmacists are getting called all of the time by other companies to join them for more money, benefits, etc. Take plenty of science classes in undergrad school (Chemestry, biology, etc.). If you can knock most of those out in undergrad school, your grad school will be a bit easier.

That depends 100% on what you choose in your near future. None of us know what is right for you or what path you should take, graphics design isn't childish and only a limited number of people are artistic enough to suceed in it, so if you are artistic that is a good way to go because there is demand for those!
