I would like to study abroad in South Africa and would like to choose the most reliable program. I was wondering how early do I have to apply if I want to study there from July '08 to Jan '09 or for a whole year from July to July? Do you get to pick the dates of your study or do they pick for you? About how much does it cost for either a whole year or a semester? Is a 3.5 good enough or do you have to have a 4.0? Do you get to pick the city that you will be staying in? How old do you have to be to stay for a whole year...if you go there while you're 17 and then turn 18 during the year, is that okay? Or is it strictly before 18? Is there anything else I need to know? What about your experiences? Sorry for the very long question...all answers are greatly appreciated!!!

- I've always loved Marine Biology (one of my favorite subjects of all times), almost everything in it, but requires lots of chemistry and my chemistry is so terrible and i don't like chemistry that much.

- Math, get decent grades, but it's just an okay subject. Nothing special about math.

- History, i love learning history, but i don't find the careers linking to it that interesting.

So which one do you think I should go for? Anyways, how do you decide what course to take at university?

In many books I see this (I'm giving you a real example):

"[n]o government can do these things alone", or
"[t]he ballot is both a right and a privilege...[which] must be protected."

Can someone explain why would the author isolate the first letter of the first word (in both examples) using this [ ] sign. It just doesn't make any sense to me.
Or, as is the case in the second example, the whole word [which] has been isolated. Why?

The second query pertains to Sir Churchill's famous quote "Ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put". Was he serious? Is it allowed in English grammar to change the place of the preposition, and doesn't it render the whole sentence incorrect?

My parents never wanted to pay for any tuition that might be required for me to attend any internship or program offered over the summer.
