No...they can't legally MAKE you go to college...But they can MAKE you MOVE OUT if you don't comply with their rules.

Most parents want what's best for their kids. They want them to get a good education so that they can get a good job that will lead to a good career which will support them & give them a better chance of having a fullfilling life.

They might assume your not wanting to stay it is your way of saying you are just fine & you know what you want & what you are doing & can make up your own mind. Which leads to to, if you are so smart & so ready to face life & it's challenges, then get a job to pay for your move.

That's what my dad did to my older brother, he didn't want to go to college at all. My 2nd brother didn't graduate with his high school class & had to go to summer school to get his degree. My dad was so disappointed in his sons that by the time my turn came, I didn't even get offered the college option. It was get job, pay rent until I had enough to afford rent outside on my own. Trying to work enough to afford rent, food, utilities, didn't give me enough time & money to afford college.

It's expensive to go to school out of state. First of all, tuition is higher. Then there's dorming fees, or rent, if you rent then there's commuting costs, phone fees, cost of travel, because if they were paying for out of state, you better be visiting.

"If you want them to pay, you go where they say."

I wish I could go to college. Too much time has passed, I have no time & can't afford it. Take it while you can!!! Learn more now!

Food for thought!

each little thing else which will help aside,.. initially... alot of people don't be attentive to 18 isn't thoroughly a felony grownup with all concerns. some issues are set up so which you're no longer seen an grownup, responcable for your self,.... etc,.. till your 26. i think of there is something for while your 28, too,.. the place your no longer seen those issues till your that age or older,.. yet be attentive to 26 for particular. however the main properly time-commemorated of issues that your no longer seen an grownup to do till your an age no longer 18 is at 21 once you could legally drink. There are different issues,.. like I stated,.. yet human beings purely care approximately 15/sixteen, 18, & 21 (making use of, Smokeing, & ingesting,.. sixteen, 18, & 21 are felony an prolonged time for grownup intercourse paraphanila/entertainment in distinctive components/states besides,... 12-21 for Mariage with out mum and dad consistent changeing from place to place for excuses and reasonws some circumstances purely their very own.). in case you look into it,.. there may be an age interior the 20's while they pass " Oh, parent's income isn't a piece for you". maximum individuals assume your nevertheless living alongside with your mum and dad and that they are helping you continuously once you agree directly to pass to a college (the way the international is meant to be).

Once you are 18, your parents can't make you do anything. However, they can say if you don't go to an Illinois school, I will not give you any money for tuition.

Only if she is paying for the schooling. Once you are 18 you can legally walk out the door and go wherever you want to do (almost) whatever you want. But if you expect them to pay for it, that's a different situation.

As far as I know, after 18, they cant legally make you do anything. Now if your living under there roof, or there paying for your college they can use both of those against you.

Most of the answers here are correct. If you're prepared to pay for college in NY or Fla. (out of state tuition with room and board) then you are free to head on out there.

Be aware though - financial aid programs will still expect them to contribute to your education even if they don't. You don't become independent for financial aid purposes simply by being 18 or moving out. That means that you could become the one who needs to pay that bill for tuition.

If you can do that then by all means head out - if you can't, and you expect them to pay for it, then you need to go where they want.

Technically no. It seems to me your parents just care about you and do not want to let go of you just yet. However, if your parents are paying for your college education then you are screwed because you won't be able to go out of state if they do not pay. So, yes they can force you in that way.

They have no rights to boss you around no more. You could go where ever you like without them forcing you. But what I recommend is that you still listen to them until you have enought money to support yourself. If not, they don't have to take care of you any longer. They also can kick you out of the house without any punishments.
