"cliche" is a cliche, and we should find a new word to replace it

Um it is just a word. A word can't be a cliche, unless you think "the" is also a cliche. We also use "the" all the time.

Yeah we all know that and try to avoid them. The word I hate is genre - why not say "type" or something simple.
