I agree, sometimes it could be tough having to study important things for an exam or test. What I tried was using flashcards to study important material. I know it may sound babyish but it definitely helps! Also taking down notes on material helps a lot, because it helps us to remember things as we read and take notes. Here are some websites:

Peace and best wishes.

In subjects such as History math etc. Go to the back of the chapter and read chapter review questions first.
Then go though the chapter to find the answers. Either highlight or write the answers out. Use this as your study guide.
For things like vocabulary.
First write all of the words and definitions flashcards work great. Study a group of ten or so at a time.
Remove words that you have down and add more from the list. Keep this up. While studying say the words and definitions out loud. That way you have written, seen, said and heard all of the words.
Have study sessions. Take breaks. Study for 15 minutes take a break then study for 15 more. You absorb more in short bursts.
Hope these tips help.

I am in college. My teachers give us a list of the things that will be on the test. I then go through the book and write out the question and the answer. This way helps me to memorize the things that we will be tested on. It works pretty good for me.
My daughter does kind of the same thing, but writes her questions and answers on index cards.
Talk to the people who consistently make good grades and perhaps they will share some tips with you.
Good luck!!!!!
