The earliest bridges would be gone by now, as making an early bridge could have been completed in prehistoric times. Simply laying logs over a stream contitiutes some degree of bridge.

By humans?? About 100,000 years ago or so, a group of hominids needed to cross a small stream that was a little too deep, or had a muddy bottom that made it difficult to walk through. They found some large logs, and strapped them together with vines. They then exteneded this across the narrowest point in the stream, and carefully walked across it. Ta-da, the first man-made bridge. I highly doubt it's existence was ever officially recorded, nor does it remain intact to this day.

Nobody will ever know. Bridges occur naturally when a tree falls across a stream. Some time in prehistory, a Neanderthal watched that occur and decided to make it happen just at the point where he wanted to cross a river, so he pulled down a young sapling. I just can't remember his name!
