I can't afford to go to those and so my mom said I should apply to the state college. She said if I really wanted to go to an ivy league or a private school like NYU then I need to take a few years off after high school, work full time and then apply to college so that I wont be in so much debt. I'm so jealous cause all my friends are going to these expensive schools and their parents are paying for everything even getting them their own apartment in the cities they're moving to! I hate my mom so much right now. What should I do in your opinion

I have been playing the viola since a very early age, and have played in numerous youth orchestras across the years. I am no longer in a community youth orchestra, but am in my school orchestra. I am seriously considering becoming a professional violist.
I would love to go IU Jacobs or Denver U Music School.
Any tips or thoughts?

Thanks so much!

With the bombardment of technology and information these days, should schools be promoting use of technology or encouraging kids to slow down and work on their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills and mastery of technical skills?
Do you think technology interferes with these necessary life skills?

I teach English at an overseas private preschool. I have a 4-year old student who witnessed domestic violence on his mom (not sure if he himself was direct victim of it). Parents divorced recently and now live in different countries. The mom tells me that, at home, her child constantly hits other children including his baby sister . At school he is not violent but disobedient and uninterested (who would?). He goes from being quiet to being disruptive. He rarely changes the sad expression on his face. The few times he plays with other children, he plays well, though. He's well liked.

We started school in September but just last week found out about the abuse through other teachers! So, unfortunately he was frequently placed in "time-out" which now I know made things even worse for him. The school has no school psychologists or counselors; it's not part of the culture. Please, I want to help this child as much as my limited position permits. Any suggestions? Thanks.

It seems to be affecting her both in school and at home. It stops her from even trying anything.

She makes many excuses, and avoids doing things (from school work, to work around the home).

I don't want her to have a "victim" mentality. Any suggestions?

In high school, my academic performance other than band was abysmal. Since I'm majoring in music performance, I thought I'd do well in a related field like instrument repair (which I'd have to go to technical college for). It would be a good day job and I'd be able to feed myself.

If I do very well academically there will it count enough towards a regular university that they'd ignore my high school grades? I'd gladly go to a conservatory, but there's so much less available where extracurriculars are concerned.

Everyone has a family, weather the want to believe it or not. Some are bigger than others, other are more complex. Most people I know their families live all over the world. Aunts and uncles in different states; grandparents that they haven’t seen for years. Not my family, we all live in the same little corner of Indiana. The farthest relative I have lives in Hamilton and that’s only about an hour drive from Auburn (where I live) depending on how fast you drive. We don’t go to Hamilton much to see that relative, even though its my mom’s mom! You think we would her being my grandma and all. But living near by to every family member, you get into a lot of family feuds. The last time I have even herd from my grandma was the day before my sweet sixth. It was a Sunday, and I was doing the Sunday day thing and relaxing. I was in the back of the house, in a rocker watching a random TV show. My dad came in and handed me the phone . The way he gave it to me I thought it was one of my friends; sitting at home doing what I was. But nope it was the grandma that doesn’t even show up for Christmas dinners anymore! She wished me a happy birthday and tried to catch up on a year of my childhood in a half an hour. The phone call ended by both of us with tears, and wishing we saw each other more.

I'm usually so good with writing reports and things like that, but this one has really gotten me stuck. I just don't know how to start the introduction...it's a report over Julius Caesar....I have found some really good information on him, and know what I'm going to have as the body of the report, but am really stuck on a good starting sentence that will catch my audience's attention!

I have a double major in History and English, plus my Secondary Teaching Certificate. I currently teach high school ap history classes, civics, and psychology. My job is very rewarding, but also very, very demanding. I pretty much from 6 am to midnight, with only a few hours to myself, and work all day on Sunday. I have helped develop several programs for my school, and the state I teach in. I'm burned out though, and am looking for a change. What careers would I be qualified for??? I am also very artistic, and love to do faux painting on walls in homes. Any suggestions???

i just finished applying for NYU, and Columbia Lawschools. NYU is my first choice. Then Columbia, then Cornell. i'm giong to apply to other ones later. My pre-law advisor says i have a good chance of getting in NYU because of my GPA and LSAT and qualifications. Plus she went to NYU and she should know. Anyways, how does a person stay at the top of their class in lawschool? Especially, a very demanding lawschool? if i stay at the top of my class like the top 5 students for 3 years, will i have an easier way to start out with jobs after lawschool?

I can pay for NYU tuition because i own my own business. so i can afford NYU and have money left over after lawschool. so that's not a problem there. But after lawschool will it be difficult for me to find a high paying job?

Also, for those in lawschool, how do you stay at the top of your class? do you have to suck up to the teacher or just get good grades and that's it?
