To those of you who have attended, or if you have known someone who has attended: Is JIU a good school? I am seriously considering obtaining my MEd from them, but I'd like to hear some reviews. Any firsthand information would be really appreciated.

JIU is a proprietary college and is marketing themselves as an "online university" - both of these is looked down upon in academia. UoPhoenix is an example in that group and their reputation is near the bottom of regionally accredited colleges.

JIU is regionally accredited so they are legit. They also have classroom programs in place so that adds some to their credibility.

They are hidden in the USNWR rankings as "International, specialized, and other institutions, unranked" which is the same as UoP and other similar schools.

The tuition is much higher than several others in the same class or even better reputation for an MEd. Peru State College for example is much more cost effective.

Hi Katie, it is a legit college since they are regionally accredited. It is basically an online school and if you would like to have more info about JIU you might want to check out this website which helped me: http://universityhelpsite.com/

schools that are driven by ideology, "Christian values" or anything other than academics are not considered "good schools." They might be great places for personal growth or value formation, but if the academics don't come first, forget it.

You may ask about Catholic colleges such as Notre Dame or Boston College - they stress academics, with religious overtones. Not the otherway around.

Choose what works for you, but know what you are choosing.
