I'm starting to look into colleges and I want to go to a college that is around Chicago, IL. I want to be a high school history teacher. Anyone have any suggestions of good schools around Chicago or northern/central Illinois?

Is it possible for me to transfer to Columbia University: School of General Studies? (Just know that General Studies accepts 47% of their applications). I'm a junior in High School who received an SAT score of 2150, and I volunteer at my community's hospital. But my MAJOR problem is that I have a low GPA because of lots of family issues that affected me( not going to say what). So my real question is if it's better to transfer from a 4-year to another 4-year (like Columbia, which I'm confident that I can wow them, but with my GPA not included), or should I go to community college to bring my GPA up there and then transfer (2-year to 4-year) after one year so they can look at my SAT score?

And another thing to consider, the website of the School of General Studies says that they don't have a GPA cut-off point.

I'm a junior in high school and have a 3.6+ GPA. I find it hard to study for the SAT because homework takes up most of my time and I'm committed to sports. I took the practice SAT and didn't study AT ALL and I got a 1400. I was shocked because I thought I did well.. but then again, I didn't study!

So my questions are:
How much time should I put into studying for the real SAT (considering that I don't have much time)? Or in other words, how much time (days, weeks) will the average person need to study all the material to get a good score? Is studying a week before the test a bad idea?

What else should I know about the SAT?


I'm planning on taking the test on JUNE 2.

SAT:1320, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society,National Society of High School Scholars, Eagle Scout. strong GPA (3.5). Iam having difficulty finding a college that will take me. (short on math credit, no forieng language but no one cares) I would do comunity college to apease the credit but, either a) it wouldnt transfer or b) want me to take a full 2 years of it then transfer ( which i would rather not go to college at all in that case). Well in the fall i am going to be start college and i am going to be going to my local community college and do 2 years there for chemistry and transfer after the 2 yeras are done.... well it says courses in chemistry and related subjects are offered for students who expect to transfer for a 4 year college or university programs in chemistry, pharmacy, medicine or other science related areas. well my question is if i do 2 years in my community college and i want to be a pharmacist do i do 4 years in a university after that or? im kinda confused.

I applied my first choice college PSU for 2007 Fall admission. But they gave me summer admission finally, which I don't want to get. So I decide to write an appeal letter to the admission office asking for fall admission.
The reason why I want them to reconsider me for fall admission because I have updated grades, since my high school made some errors in my transcript which may affect my admission. And I have significant improvement in my senior year. Also, I won a 2nd place award in my county after they made my admission decision. And I visited the school few weeks ago, joined their accepted students reception when their representitives came to my state as well. Because I am accepted to engineering school, so the school is more attactive to me.
I want to know how can I write this letter to state the above reasons offically and appropriately? Could anyone help me to write a paragraph or something like that?

I've moved out and my mother still lists me as a dependent. For student aid reasons I need to file as an independent student, but she refuses to stop claiming me. what can I do?
