1) rhodium (from the Greek word for rose) (or, possibly, germanium for it's similarity to the word geranium or gadolinium for it's likeness to gladiola-though it reaches even more. It would depend on the questioner's intent)
2) rutherfordium (American president Rutherford B. Hayes achieved the rank of major-general. Although it is more than likely that officers in armies around the world, past and present, have first or last names in common with this and other elements. Like #1 there are many possible answers)
3) samarium (Samaritan)
4) tungsten (from Danish meaning "heavy stone" and/or the phonetic similarity of ton and tun (1 ton=2,000 lbs. with stone (sten) being a reference to stone sarcophagi)
5) arsenic (beautiful mountains are scenic)
6) cerium (if, like me, you like your steak ultra rare then you sear 'em)
7) antimony (auntie money or auntiemony [like alimony])
8) gold cuz it kinda sounds like "cold"
