I'm considering going to NYU but I've heard a lot of mixed things about it... I'm just wondering if it's a good school and if the $33,000 per year tuition will get me anywhere. And if you went there/know somebody that went there, what was it like? Thanks!

Just about to graduate from NYU! The tuition is pricey and you'll be in debt, but the faculty and education is top-notch and you're paying for that.

You're also paying for the experience of being in the heart of the east and west villages which will soon be gentrified and vanished! Part of the tuition is the location - I've had classes where half-way through the lecture the prof will point out the window and say 'actually, that building there - that's where it happened!' ect...

One thing to ask yourself is WHY do you want to go there? Tisch, the arts college is INCREDIBLE! But if you want to go into social work ect...it's not worth it. Examine why you want to go and if it's worth it. For me, I chose to attend NYU because it's one of two schools in the US that has my program.

As great as it is, it's an institution full of red tape ect... and as the largest land-owner in NYC, you'll soon learn that most new yorkers actually despise NYU and anything associated with it!

NYU can't be beat.... for that right person, that is. Of course it's a top notch school with an excellent faculty and facilities and the resources of NYC at your fingertips. That said, if you're easily distracted, it may not be the place for you. I have known many NYU students and many dropped out due to extra-curricular pursuits! Needless to say, those pursuits really didn't go far in the long run. Every single person I know that graduated from NYU has gone quite far in their chosen field. Go for it!

It's a very good school. I'd choose it over some of the Ivies. That's based more on personal preference. Reputation wise, it's right up there with the Ivies and other top schools like Stanford, Duke, MIT, Cal Tech, etc.

NYU is one of the best universities in the country.

It is located in the middle of Greenwich Village -- which is one of the most interesting areas of Manhattan. There are very few schools that I would choose over NYU (just those in the Ivy League, Duke, Chicago, Berkeley, Stanford and MIT).
