I think what is typical (other than the basics: English, math, social studies, science) is going to depend on where you live. You might want to check with schools in your district. Some places give gr. 7 students a lot of options, others require certain subjects other than the basics.

The following choices are based upon my personal experience and the curricula that worked for each of my children. Hope these give you a few ideas and good luck!

English---which should include: writing (including grammar and essays), reading (especially novels), reading comprehension, vocabulary, and spelling (if he or she isn't proficient)

Mathematics---Saxon level 76, level 87, or Algebra 1/2 (depending on personal level)

Science---Apologia General Science by Dr. Wile would be a great curriculum for a 7th grader. If not, you might try a Life Science curriculum such as Bob Jones.

History---I would try a curriculum based upon what your child wants to learn or is interested in or study an area that is new to him or her. These studies could include geography, government (especially since 2008 will be an election year), or philosophy.

Electives---(if you wish) These could include a foreign language, a vocational skill such as woodworking, art, home economics, etc.

If you HS now, and plan on continuing to do so, then just follow along in your curriculum's scope and sequence. There may be some variation in the middle school courses.

You do *not* have to follow your districts S&S if you don't plan on putting him in PS. However, if you plan to place him into PS for high school, then you'll want to make sure to "line him up" with the typical sequence.

My curriculum has the following courses for 7th:

Pre-Algebra B
World History A
World Art A
Life Science
English B
Exploring Music

Then there are other electives like foreign language such as Spanish or Latin, Computer Programming, etc.

Different faculties research distinctive matters. Even inside a tuition the lecturers would possibly educate distinctive matters. Are you in house tuition (this class)? If so, do not fear approximately what faculties be taught. Do what you desire, inside your legislation. Most seventh graders do not take algebra. In my district there's no artwork in center tuition in any respect, it used to be reduce. Science is most likely a standard technological know-how, finding out approximately the medical system and how you can habits experiments. Magnetism, electrical energy, a few earth sciences and biology. Language arts is most likely a textual content with somewhat of the whole lot, drama, poetry, non-fiction, quick studies, and many others. Then historical past. Sometimes US or global.
