All schools insist on covering the student's notebooks with brown wrapper. Instead, why the manufacturers themselves can't wrap
and paste them. What is the logic behind wrapping ? If it is for uniformity, the manufacturers can do better by a brown wrapper,
printed name label and sealing properly. Money and time can be
saved by the parents. If wrapping is considered as a craft work for
the students, there are better creative works that can be assigned to them. Please opine...

My mom makes under $25,000 a year. She's a single mother, trying to support my brother and I. My parents are divorced and my dad doesn't pay child support. I was accepted to an excellent university that costs $25,000/yr. I have a Pell grant from the federal government, a nice scholarship from a local organization, and some merit aid. Problem is, I've had a rough first year and my merit aid may run out because I'm ending this semester which under a 3.0 GPA (2.7).

I feel like I'm drowning. Next year I may be an RA, which will eliminate housing- but I'm still short nearly 8k and to the extent I can go with federal loans. My mom says it'd be a good idea if I claim myself next year as a legal independent on our tax return. Is this a good idea? Is there anyone out there with a similar background? How am I going to survive the next 3 years and overcome the burden of poverty?

I'm a freshman at college and undecided about my major (big surprise right?). Just wondering how you decided upon a major, and how closely is your job now related to the major you chose?

There are many ideas. One is schools should have manditory classes for kids in Kindergarden and up through College, teaching how to have and maintain healthy relationships, and the responsibility of caring for one another. What do you think?

My professor I feel, along with many of my fellow student, that our teacher has a unfair and ridiculous way of grading. Her aim in grading is really against the student by weighing a project, worth 140 point in her book, equal to a homework check, which she marks as 5 point. She never explained fully about her absurd grading nor does it go with what she had written down in the course syllabus and her form of assigning "points" mislead me. So I'm wondering how should I press this issue towards a Dean? Should I start by having students, which I'm sure their willing to do, sign a petition? Please help. Thanks.

Suppose I am accepted into both Cornell University and Univeristy of California at Berkeley. How can I really distinguish the two from each other (besides location/weather)? I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, so I have been to UC Berkeley, but I haven't been to Cornell before. Please do not tell me to do more research because I have done so, and the information is all very vague; they both basically say "we are big and therefore we are good at almost everything and our student body is very dynamic". If you were me, which would you choose, and why?

Thanks very much for any help you have on this stressful choice.

I'm not sure what I want to do?
I've been out of school now for as long as I was in...and I don't know what I want to do.

I'm only 15 but I feel like I'm throwing my life away. I spend all day inside playing computer games. I'm an introvert so that's my natural bent but this is really extreme. I don't do any academics; I have ADHD and no motivation, so nothing happens. When I tried to do the curriculum thing with my mom it failed miserably. We just fought and nothing got done. So I'm thinking I'd like to try school but I have two problems.

1) In my area, schools that aren't super high pressure and hard to get in to have no resources and have problems with violence and kids having sex in the hallways. I don't want to deal with that if I don't have to.

2) Stupid people don't get in to smart schools, and I'm stupid.

Is there any way to resolve this?

I should also add that it would be a long, uphill battle just to get my mom to be okay with the idea.

I am currently writing a term paper on the economy of Germany and I am curious about how to properly cite and show the sources I used. Would it be plagarism if I didn't cite anything within the text and just ended up showing the sources instead on the bibliography page? The instructions kind of throw me off... here's what it says...

"7. Cite your sources and include a bibliography page. You may cite sources within the text, as footnotes, or as endnotes."

Would this mean that I don't have to source in the text and can do it just at the end? I'm not the most versed when it comes to citing sources in certain formats, so any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!
