I'm a grade 12 student in BC, Canada. As graduation is approaching, I have to start making some decisions... except I'm utterly and completely LOST. I have no idea waht career to pursue in and what to take in post-secondary.

I'm interested in graphic design, but it seems childish to want to do that as a living - who doesn't know how to do graphic design these days? Things that have interested me are PHARMACY and OPTOMETRY. I'm looking for something that will allow me to have a steady income in the future, allowing me more time to spend on my own. What other careers/jobs/courses should I take? Any advice as to what I should do?

And I'd LOVE to hear something about actual practicing optometrists and/or pharmacists as well. Thanks!

For example, doing poorly in something that could possibly determine your future. Right now, I have around a 3.0 in my junior year of high school. I received a 3.7 last year because it was much easier. It seems the classes this year are impossible to receive an "A" in.

I stayed up late last night finishing a slideshow presentation which is due tomorrow. Since it was late and i was a little out of it, I thought I had saved my work..but now I can't seem to find it anywhere on my computer....and its too late to get it redone tonight. anywhere else. I don't want any other zip codes... I don't have the transportation to go and come and I need somewhere close to where I live - I need to complete 10 hours which might take me a few days.

I tired volunteermatch.org - but I couldn't find any in exactly my zip code - they're all these other zip codes 5-20 miles away.

HELP!!! I want to do this and get it over with on Christmas break, which I just started today because I don't celebrate Christmas and this is the perfect time - I'm super busy with HW on school days. My credit hours are due on March 23, 2006 btw.

I'm a Junior right now in High School. I'm fed up with school and I'm fed up with bullies.

I don't want to drop out of school. Instead, I want to be home schooled. Also, I've ben thinking about College. I don't want to go to any college. My Aunt told me that I could do my College work online.

Also, I could have Driver's Ed online too. I don't even need to leave the house. Yes, I do want to get my Diploma, but I could get it in the mail? Won't I be able to get my homework/classwork in the mail? I hate school and I feel it's just a waste of my time. I can't recall one thing I've learned today. 8 hours a day/5 days a week is a real pain the the a-s-s.

It feels like, especially now with NCLB, that there is a lot of talk about the need to hold teachers "accountable." I know that there are some teachers out there who are not doing their jobs, but is it fair to put all of the blame on their shoulders? What about administrators, parents, the community, etc?

Also, do you think that standardized tests measure student acheivement accurately? I think that if we as teachers are doing our jobs, and are teaching to the standards of our fields, then our students should pass standardized tests if they really measure what students need to know. So why all this teaching to the tests?
