Education & Reference - 23 August 2006

My 9 year old hates school. He was fine in kindergarten and 1st grade. He always says he hates school. He goes to Jefferson Elementary in south Natomas. I see a bad trend starting here and don't want him ruined by the public school system with their rules, regulations, comforming ways, inflexibility, and wanting children to sit there all day and not get fidgity, all closed up in a hot room all day long. His teacher tells me every time he "does not do his work in class", among other things. I am seriously considering homeschooling him hoping this will give him more choices to learn what he wants to learn at his own pace. I think I can do it since I work part time. Are my reasons valid? He is great in math and reads well, he is good on the computers too and I thought online learning might be good for him. Please only serious replies respond. Thank you.

I had a link to a great site with tons of free activities for elementary classroom guidance lessons, but lost it when my computer crashed & cannot find it again. Anyone have a suggestion for free online resources? I have found one or two, but they all require books, tapes, or other materials not at my disposal! I have to write a journal entry to these three statements for school.

Please help me. I am really having trouble thinking of ideas. The statements are kind of confusing too.

1. Virtue is always rewarded, and vice punished.

2. People must find a balance between the conflicting needs for a partner who will always love them, and the desire to always stay true to themselves.

3. There is always tension between the emotional and intellectual needs of a person.

Any ideas i could use for a response to these statements? I have to type a half of a page for each one. Thanks, i would really appreciate it.

I won't say that I have never given a speech because of my phobia, but some people seem to enjoy or do not mind giving speeches and I find myself up all night worrying about it, and then often I mess up. Sometimes this phobia extends to not being able to raise my hand in class. Please help. Would it help to take a drug before getting on stage? What worked for you?

I got financial aid for my daughter to go to college, she is only 17. A refund check came in the mail addressed to the parents of.... but the check was made out to my daughter. All of her schooling, books, meals, housing had already been paid. This was left over. $278 was because of financial aid. The other $500.00 was because my husband is a professor there and she got one free class. She was on vacation, i cashed the check. I gave her $400 when she got home for books. I told her I would give her the rest after she moved in her dorm. She went straight and filed charges against me for forgery,. Just was wondering because someone told me that I could sign for my minor children until they were 18.
