You should end your letter: "Yours sincerely" if you are beginning the letter with the teacher's name. It should go on the left side. In fact, everything should be set to the left.

A general purpose salutation is, "Sincerely," (notice the comma) and it is aligned to the left.
Basically, you type your last sentence, return twice, write "Sincerely," return 3 times, and type your full name.
This is a standard business letter format.
