I'm making prom(May 5) plans for a group of 8. All the guys want to go to Red Robin, and so we said ok. Its casual (burgers and such), and only about 20 min from the prom location. Does Red Robin make reservations? Others in the group say we don't need to make them, should we?

I own a restaurant. Long story short, we need to close for a minimum of 2, probably 4 weeks to re-organize. (We had all of our kitchen staff and some of our servers walk out tonight--and NO, i promise I am not some horrible boss...they just listened to rumors that i wasn't given a chance to prove wrong.)

Anyway, I'm very concerned about what my customers will think/do if they come and read a sign on the door that we are temporarily closed.

I would love to tell the truth, but cannot without tarnishing a family members reputation, and I refuse to stoop to her level. Lets say I blame it on "emergency plumbing repairs which made us decide to revamp the kitchen meanwhile" or ??? would this, as a customer, either a regular or first time visitor, change your opinion and likelihood to return to the restaurant, or have any kind of negative impact?

Please help!

I've been on my regular job a few years, but I occasionally work summer jobs as a waiter or host for extra money when there are conventions or major engagements going on.

Some nights I make over $300 in tips alone, but rarely less than $150 and that's part-time.

Anyway, is it just me, or do many customers visit restaurants with attitudes? When you go out for the evening, or meet with others for lunch, isn't that supposed to be a time to relax? Why not stay home and order take out if you're that angry?

Another thing which bugs me, is that many customers assume all food service employees have no other ambitions in life, not that there is anything wrong with those who choose to be full-time waiters or waitresses.

Many of us make more money than the people we serve, or will soon make more as we are in college(such as myself), and others are working these jobs to finance their own businesses. So why do people come into restaurants with attitudes and pre-conceived stereotypes?

On a business trip to China awhile ago, the owner of the company that my husband was doing business with, took us out for dinner with other high authority people in the company. During dinner and conversations, I couldn't help but notice no one has touch the plates of shrimp, prepared in different ways. Everything else was half eaten so I decided to eat the shrimps, not because no one was eating them but, they look delicious. I started to think that maybe theres something in the shrimp why these people won't eat them. It was so obvious. I excused myself to go to the ladies room but really, I wanted to ask somebody about this. I asked one of the somebody that was dining at the restaurant about the shrimp and he said that, chinesse people consider shrimp as peasant food. I decided not to ask anymore questions to anyone but in my head. If thats so, why would they serve the shrimps anyway? does all chinesse people feel like this? I think that only the rich who don't eat shrimps.

"the service promise", the "guest connection", the "feel special". I work on these points every day and pour my heart into my job. Yesterday I worked 7 and 1/2 hours straight and at the end of the day I was written up for not using the word promise to a table. Doesn't matter if I made the happy or not, they had great service, but I didn't use the word "promise" . This job is just nuts, any others agree?
