why almost it is a tendency to cross the legs below the chair while having food on a dining table..?

generally it is observed that most of the people have a habit to cross their legs, below the chair while sitting, while taking lunch or dinner or anything on a dining table...

Well for women it is just a common courtesy and a sign of good breeding. A woman should never sit in a chair with her legs spread open to the world. It is very unladylike.
As for men I just think that the legs are just more comfortable crossed at the ankle when sitting in a sitting position.
