I've worked shifts that were a good 8+ hours, and also had to do split shifts where I'd only work for 3.5 hours, go home, wait 2 hours and go back and work another 6 hours. Then there was that other one where I only worked 4 hours tops a day for lunch.
It really depends on which shift you want to work, or are willing to work. (And praying the boss has openings for you.) If you're desperate, you'll work until 1 a.m. and turn around and come back for the breakfast shift, and then get suckered into working more hours. If you have a good boss and coworkers, it can be less stressful than I make it sound.

It depends on shifts, on where you work, what kind of restaurant (cafe, bistro, whatever) you work at. It also depends heavily on the day's clientele and "movement" (the number of clients at each hour). The restaurant-school I study at has two 8 hours shifts: 6 am to 2 pm and 2 pm 'till closing time. The closing time can run long sometimes (going as far as 2 am) but it is not an everyday thing.
And no, we don't stand all day. Just for a large part of the 8 hours. You get used to it fairly quickly, and it IS kinda fun.

It depends on where you work as well as what shifts you choose. Most of my friends work as part time waiters at restaurants, and they can usually work just after school, such as from 3-8 pm, and on the weekends, from like 12-6 pm. If you're interested, contact restaurants where you're interested in working! Good luck -- hope this helps you!

it is not a state regulation -- that's a countrywide regulation that in case you are not getting adequate recommendations to equivalent out to the federal minimum salary of $7.25 an hour your business would desire to make up the version. occasion: you artwork 5 hours and make and purely make $20, that's $5.60 decrease than minimum salary for the day. So, all waiters / waitresses make a minimum of minimum salary -- purely like a number of of the rest human beings workers.

Depends on when the restaurant opens and closes and when each shift gets cut.
