Right now I have a 42" Philips 720p Plasma TV. I'm buying another one and have heard about 1080p. I was wondering if there is a big visual difference between 1080p TV's and 720p TV's. Also if I use it for my games should I get an LCD or a Plasma?

It's a Gateway 42" and I've had it about 5 years. Just this past weekend the bottom half of the screen went out. It's a perfectly straight line and literally cuts through half the TV. The top half is fine and it's not like the viewing image was shrunk to fit in the top half. The sound is fine. I'm curious to know what exactly is wrong and if it's repairable. Thanks in advance.

this is obviously for HDTV in America. 720 progressive means there are really 720 lines of resolution. But 1080 interlaced means that they actually try to squeeze in 1080 lines of resolution into half that number. Well, at least that's how I understand it. Maybe I have this wrong. Maybe one y'all can explain. Thank you.

I Just bought a panasonic TH-42px60u. So I LOVED this TV everytime I saw it - in the stores, at a friends place, even just reading the specs online.
But somehow in my living room the PQ just doesn't measure up!
I have Comcast service (Seattle Area, Motorola dual tuner DVR) and the SD channels suck. The HD channels keep showing up with bars on the right and left even though I adjusted the settings on the Moto box. (16:9, component - 1080i, 4:3 override set to stretch).
The TV is at Standard right now, with some brightness and sharpness adjustments.

I hate the idea that I have to keep changing the aspect ratio for the HD programming. And I don't want to watch with the black bars for burn-in reasons and it just looks ugly.

Moreover the HD picture looks bad! It's pixelated and annoying.

Does anyone else have the same problem? If you have the same TV and comcast service please help me.

Even though I have seen some devices to convert VGA to HDMI, the manual for my Toshiba HDTV monitor (51HC85) warns to never connect this monitor to a PC.

There is no explaination why. Does anyone know? Thanks!

I've got io interactive cable box, which includes: family plan, basic bradcast and international channals. I called the cable asked them if I can just have a family plan or just broadcast, but they taled me that one doesn't go without another. Does it work like this for every one or just for me???
P.S. feels like I'm working only for the bills.

I have cable hooked up in my living room. I want to somehow put cable in my bedroom also, but without having the cable company come out and hook it up. How would I do that, and is that illegal or considered stealing cable?

I'm looking at 50" plasma HDTVs and most seem to say they are 720P. So what happens when they are fed a 1080i signal that some stations broadcast? Is there a processor inside stripping lines of resolution out and giving me a 720i picture?

Are there 50" plasmas that can give me both 1080i and 720p without costing a fortune?

I am looking into buying an LCD HDTV for my bedroom and need some help as to what to look for. I've heard people say to check the contrast ratio and make sure it's high...what range is good for that? Also what else is key when buying an LCD TV? What are some of the better ones out there on the market? Help! Totally clueless! I don't want to get ripped off, hahaha.
