HDTV ready means the set is capable of displaying hi def, but cannot produce the signal itself. You have to attach a hi def source, such as a cable box, ATSC tuner, satellite receiver, etc.

HD tuner HDTV means the ATSC tuner is built in and you can receive HD/digital tv signals from local tv stations if they are broadcasting digital.

heard a hd ready tv is a tv which needs a device to activate its hd features while a hd tuner tv could be a hd activated tv for viewing.
