Why are there so many questions about making indie films recently? I mean lately I've been seeing one or two questions about how to make indie films or something like that everyday. Is there some kind of huge film festival that I'm missing or something?

My friends and myself are trying to get a film production company going (we're getting LLC soon), and the thing I'm asking about is mainly filming. And also, mainly the camera. I recently came into a little bit of money, enough for a prosumer camera. I've wanted a Canon XL-2 for almost 3 years now (since my high school film class), and I am still considering it. I was wondering about anyone's experiences with said camera, and any feedback for anything of production work. Pre- and Post- production, we have down, but we've never actually done such a project. We've run test shots with our nifty little Sony Cybershot (DSC-T1), and I feel we'll do a good job, but how about this camera? I've read all the specs (I've mainly stuck with my original decision of the XL-2 because of the versatility/adaptability and cost). Does anyone have any advice, comments, or suggestions? Thanks.

I'm looking for a camcorder to buy, something that will not give me the whole 'home movie' effect and feel to it. I will also need a tripod so it won't be shakey and all that but could you just tell me some good inexpensive camcorders that will give me what i'm looking for. I don't know much about camcorders and lenses but i'm looking into it. If anyone can help me with brands and prices of camcorders to look into I will be very thankful.

My friends just had a baby. They are not high tech but they do have a laptop used for internet and word processing. I think digital is the best option for them. The camera would be for home/vacation use only and used weekly at the most. Could you recommend a reasonably priced, user friendly camcorder? Also recommend what format is best? Thanks

We need to bring a Camcorder for relatives in So. America.
They are interested in the Sony DCR SR 100 (it varies in price between $650-$850 from a quick internet search). I would appreciate any input from users of newer camcorders.
Thanks!
