Each model has its strengths and weaknesses, a Sony camcorder is a good investment, so would be a Panasonic or a Sanyo. The small HD model by Sanyo(of the Xacti series) has recently caught my eye. Search for it..

I never had one before. But I think Sony would be a good camcorder. They are a good name brand. I hope that helps you out.

Depends on ur definition of BEST ..

DVD is Best is you are looking for easy portability and good picture quality.

Mini DV is best if you are looking for the best pitcure quality but it involves efforts to convert the format to avi format unless u want to buy a new Mini DV every time.

VHS and Hi8 are good too but those are kind of very old technologies as of today...

*I would recomend to go for either MiniDV or DVD.

The Sony Handicams are pretty good. I went with a CanonDC100 DVD and i really like it. A bit cheaper than the sonys.
