On my laptop I have Microsoft Works word processor, spreadsheet and other programs etc... what are they ? Are they an improvement to the traditional Word, Excel etc... ?

I ave never seen these programs on any other computer, I have Windows XP, are they compatible with other programs ?

I have a pair of large 127GB hard drives in my computer. Following a windows crash on its twin disc I had to reload windows. I had a microsoft backuop file on this drive prior to the accident. During the process windows reformatted this drive and so I cannot get the data. I have been trawling the internet for a data recovery program but the ones that find the file requirwe me to pay a large up-front fee. Does anyone know of a free program that will reliably find data from a reformatted disc, for FREE.

So I tried using powerISO to mount it to a virtual drive, but then when I go inside the drive, I see an audio folder and a video folder and inside the video file there's a whole lot of VOB files and other weird things - and I don't know what to do with those...

How do I view this DVD without burning it to a disk? And what programs do I need? Thanks a lot

I remember some guys i knew in school talking about programming their computers to play music to wake them up instead of buying those alarm clocks that do the same thing. I wasn't sure if it was a progeam or something i could do through standard windows media player.

Honesty, I want to know. I really -want- to like Linux. I'm very fond of the open source scene. However, after taking a spin with a couple different Linux releases, I don't really see why so many people love it so much. It feels like a strange and foreign version of Windows that doesn't support half of my hardware. Help me understand the passion for Linux. I want to believe!

I recently received my Ubuntu Linux liveCD in the mail, and it says to put it in the CD drive then restart. I have done this, it takes me to the Ubuntu boot menu, but I didn't choose to "Start or Install" because I was paranoid that it would overwrite Windows, please somebody, I need to know specifically if running the LiveCD will overwrite anything on my computer.

I used the restore to a date option to correct a problem with my sound now I can't download the new internet explorer. I get an error stating that it has to do with the configeration in that application. I want to go back in again and restore it to another date to try and fix this. Will I do more damage?

I lost the box for the printer with the software, so I downloaded it from the hp website........ all of the updates etc. yet the main software won't install.
A message comes up at the end once it has gone through it's process and I have clicked all the "next " buttons.........
It says "does not meet one of the following requirements: service pack * product type * internet explorer.
this printer is hp photosmart 7450
