My computer (Inspiron 5100 running XP) boots very slowly then on occassion just stalls ...moving the mouse works fine but clicking on anything results in no action till often a minute later ... then it seems fine again for a bit ... looking at the task manager, the cpu is only 3% utilized so it's not like there is an app hogging the machine. I have run ccleaner and abexo and ad-aware and they have not fixed the issue .... anyone with any sugeestions?

It's just that you normally have to pay for a recovery disk to restore your computer. When you buy a computer of the shelf you get XP with the machine Pre-installed. Are you paying for that pre-installation when you buy the PC?

With An OEM version of Windows does the rule apply that you can only install that disk once on a machine or can you install that disk on many machines?

Had a pop up yesterday when switching on my lap top to say AVG free Edition would be stopped in Jan.07 and to go to their site re another edition. Am completely hopeless at understanding the jargon. Will the new one have to be reinstalled and does it cost anything ?

Hi!!

I just purchased Myst V End of Ages. I have successfully played the first three versions of this game on my computer with no problems.

Yesterday I go to install the game and I get an error message that reads "There was an error initializing the video card...Try lowering your graphics settings". Okay, I lowered the graphics all the way down to 256 colors and still get this error.

This has happened to me on a previous game, so can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong (I'm not very tech savvy). Heres what I'm running vs. system requirements of Myst V:

My computer:
HP 8665c bought in 2000
Running XP Professional
Pentium III
382 MB RAM
Direct X9.0c
Phoenix BIOS 4.0 6.0.G
Intel 82810 Graphics controllers

System Requirements for Myst V:

I'm over here in Japan and have recently found a good list of Academic Podcasts*. There are some great lectures there and I'm currently listening to Elementary Psychology from Purdue.

While just listening is great and interesting it would be really nice to have a note-taking program so I can easily jot down and organize some notes on these lectures.

Any suggestions?

when you use word you can only print one label at a time unless all the same , i need a program where you can input multiple addresses and print at once then save for future printing.

Frankly, which of the two is better WITHOUT taking price into account?? I have heard that Open Office rivals MS Office in almost every aspect except that MS Office is more suitable and friendly for novices. Now, I am neither a novice nor an expert, so can I go with Open Office? Details and links will be appreciated. And does Open Office include a database like MS Access? Rate each one out of 10.(again without price factor)

i know this is a common question and many of us can't get the proper solution of this... but let me tell about my way, i will try to explain it...i have tried to download Java form the original site (not other links) but there are some error messages appear. i have also downloaded the java installer from other links but also failed to install.
Hints:-
Now what should it do?
go download the xp real version (it is not either sp2 or sp3)
or i have to change my internet options? if so, exactly what options should i have to change to fix the problem

or i have to download the java files, if so from where? pleaseeee give the link and know me exactly then where should i download it on my computer??!! please please help me, i think it should help others too

Am Installing Windows 98 SE on a little 366 for my 3.5 year old
to play her preschool games and go to pollypocket.com, she always wants on my computer...ANYWAY, it checks the computer and then press enter to ocntinue setup, it goes back to the dos screen and it says "invalid DPMI return from 03FF:5F7A REMOVE ANY FLOPPY DISKS FROM DRIVES AND PRESS ANY KEY TO RESTART. In 10 years of working on computers, I have never seen that when installing an OS! Anyone know what it means?

I scanned in the script for a show i'm working on to edit it in Microsoft Word. It was really fast to edit at first, but now that I have all 117 pages in the document, it is super slow. It usually takes like 20 seconds for the computer to register after I do something as simple as highlight a world. Why is this? Is there anyway to stop it...I really need to be able to edit quickly!!!

In some Asian countries, most people don't have access to internet. So taking advantage of this problem, some people download free but essential softwares from Internet (like download.com) and burn them into CDs and sell them. Is it legal?
