Hi!!

I just purchased Myst V End of Ages. I have successfully played the first three versions of this game on my computer with no problems.

Yesterday I go to install the game and I get an error message that reads "There was an error initializing the video card...Try lowering your graphics settings". Okay, I lowered the graphics all the way down to 256 colors and still get this error.

This has happened to me on a previous game, so can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong (I'm not very tech savvy). Heres what I'm running vs. system requirements of Myst V:

My computer:
HP 8665c bought in 2000
Running XP Professional
Pentium III
382 MB RAM
Direct X9.0c
Phoenix BIOS 4.0 6.0.G
Intel 82810 Graphics controllers

System Requirements for Myst V:
Win 2000/XP
800 MHz Pentium III or higher recommended
256 MB RAM
32MB Direct x 9.0c
Supported video cards:
ATI Radeon 7000/8000/9000/x families
NVIDIA GeForce
Intel Extreme 2

It seems to me that I fit all of the requirements. If I am needing a video card upgrade, is it worth it to invest it in this computer or should I just save for a new one?

Thank you SO MUCH for your help!

Firstly your graphics card is integrated on your mother board, if you are a gamer, this is a big no no.

A new graphics card will sort this nicely. YOu can pick up a cheap one that will play this game for about £30 ($50) from ebay. Or new for £45 ($60). Id advise buying more RAM too, its dirt cheap and worth more than gold for any computer system, especially gaming.

EDIT : As your system is fairly low in general it is worth saving for a new one. If you are saving for a new one dont buy any more RAM, dell and other places give good memory on new computers. I'd still invest in the graphics card though to keep you goin while you save.

Your current computer has a graphics chip.

To run the game, you will have to buy a video card that is supported and install it.

Your performance may not be great, even with a new video card. Systems with minimum requirements often do not perform well.

Pentium III is sorta outdated...and the memory is low. I know the specs say that need only a certain amount of memory but yours is reallylow. You need more if you want to keep playing witout freezing up and getting error messages. Invest in a new computer

Okay this one is an easy one chick. check to see the type of graphics card you have. Manufacturer and model

For example: NVidia - Geforce

Then goto their website an download the latest driver for your graphics card. You wont have to mess about with any other setting then. Then you will be able to play away!!!!!

A video card upgrade is only 60.00 to 80.00 dollars, I just tried to join gametap and I had the same problem. Gametap does not support all types of video cards. It isnt that your video card is bad, it just means that its not as up to date as the products coming out. I would do an upgrade.
