My computer (Inspiron 5100 running XP) boots very slowly then on occassion just stalls ...moving the mouse works fine but clicking on anything results in no action till often a minute later ... then it seems fine again for a bit ... looking at the task manager, the cpu is only 3% utilized so it's not like there is an app hogging the machine. I have run ccleaner and abexo and ad-aware and they have not fixed the issue .... anyone with any sugeestions?

Try cleaning up the bar below, the one with the time. A lot of icons in that cause huge delay. Simply run "msconfig" go to the startup tab and remove a program that does not need to be there, something you can access from somewhere else.

Also, cleanup unnecessary files. Go to my computer, then right click the drive c, and near the pie graph for the used and unused space, click the disk cleanup button. This removes temp internet files and other garbage. The things in here won't affect other programs, don't be afraid to delete.

Then, defragment your pc. This action groups similar data together to enable your pc to access files faster. On the properties window, go to the tools tab and choose disk defragment. This takes a while, around 3 hours :) Good luck!
