Software - November 2006

I need a program that I can download for free on the internet and I need the program that will help me burn programs,files,pictures and other stuff onto cds.I already know of NERO and dont want anything to do with it.I am going to reinstall windows on my computer and want to put all of my important stuff on this cd or cds incase I mess it up I will still have all of my stuff for future use.

ok everytime i am in strangetown and i try to move my sims into a house it goes to the loading screen, then within 20 seconds it pops up and says "application has crashed. Application is now shutting down." WHY? can anyone please help me? Also is Strangetown the only town where you can get abducted by aliens? PLZ answer.

I've had Ad Aware for 2 years, no problems, but now when I try to update it my computer screen turns blue, says something about an error, and restarts. Any suggestions? Ad Aware is the only program (anti-spyware and anit-virus) that causes this to happen.

It has to deal with computers. There is an operating system out there called Linux and it comes from a book called Teach Yourself Red Had Linux in 24 Hours. I actually have 2 questions pertaining to this...

1) What is the name of the movie that used Linux?

2) Define the following commands:

gzip=

zcat=

If you can find these answers for me I will appreciate it very much. If anybody uses Linux instead of Windows for their operating system, that will also be very helpful...

I had a hard drive failure. Luckily the files are backed up;but, the Outlook Express files are in dbx format and the only facility that Outlook Express has for importing files is from another mail program.
How can I get these files to the new Outlook Express. Copies of them are in a folder on my new hard drive. Please do not suggest cut and paste, because Outlook Express does not see them when this is done.

I am running windows me.
When I try to access the control panel through start-settings, I receive the error;" Explorer has caused an error in shell32.dll" If I try to access the control panel through the "my computer" icon, I receive the message, " Explorer has caused an error in schell32.dll". I have run registry repair and repaired 106 entries. and my virus scan comes up clean, What might be causing this, and what should I do? Also, I cannot right click the start button to explore.

Recently I had to do a full recovery on my computer. I need to re-install Microsoft Office. The problem is that when I originally bought my computer about a year ago, there was a 60-day trial of Microsoft Office. In order to maintain MS Office, I bought an upgrade disc and installed it. But now that I had to do a full recovery, my upgrade software won't work because I can't re-active the 60 day trial offer because I no longer have the original product key. Do you know how I can re-install MS Office without having to buy more software? Thank you.

Internet Explorer is slow as all get out and Mozilla is really good but the past couple of weeks; I keep getting errors that say that it has to close. This can happen up to 5 times a day. Anybody have any idea how to get these errors to stop or better yet; is there another browser out there?

The language is set to welsh evey time I tried to change to UK English, welsh comes back again .
The follwing thing I have already tried Tools>Language>set language>English Uk>Default>Yes
but it doesn't work and welsh come back .

I had to reinstall WinXP MCE 2005 on my PC after a Chinese-English dictionary (mysteriously) caused it to crash terribly upon loading up. Now, the PC is not working properly-it refuses to nstall Windows Media PLayer 11 series, and the Update Rollup 2 for Media center edition Windows. When I enter "SFC.exe /scannow" into the Run box, it comes up with faulty XP components and requests the use of a Windows XP Profesional CD 2! I do not have this, why would my Media Center Edn PC ask for a disk from a different OS? Any help, please?
