Any comments about linux from current/previous users

If you're interested in stability and don't care about games all that much - its a pretty sound move.

However, there are a lot of versions of Linux on the market, and even more versions that you can simply download for free.

Do your research carefully to determine that all the applications you want, including things like games, are available for the flavor of Linux you select.

Also - have you considered a dual or triple boot environment? I don't think they're as common as they once were - but I have set up systems where you select which partition to boot from, allowing a single system with say WinXP (for games) and Linux for actually doing something productive.

I would buy a pre-packaged version instead of downloading a version off the Internet. Also, I would read up about Linux before buying to insure you get the right version for your needs.

get ubuntu linux. it is fairly user friendly and has a lot of programs available. your computer will run better and you will not have to worry about viruses as much.
p.s. ubuntu is totally free. if you register, you can request free discs sent to you. free.
