I transfered a file from my desktop to my laptop using Yahoo! instant messenger. The file was not received correctly (in fact, there were three files total), and I can't double click to Run the program. I can't even delete it - every time I try to, it says that another application is using it, even though nothing's running. I've even rebooted to make sure Yahoo! wasn't still using the file. I've tried booting the new Gateway laptop into SAFE mode, but don't know how (usually SAFE mode will allow me to delete stubborn items). Pressing F8 during startup doesn't work. Please help...is there a way to force delete it or see what program is still using it?

On this computer, when you try to click onto microsoft word it says the dialogue box is open. And that you have to close it to open Microsoft word. Then when you find what I'm assuming is the "dialogue box" it shows Microsoft word "installing". It has been installing for at least a couple of weeks! What can I do?

I have a machine with a 433MHz processor, 384MB RAM, and a 6.4 GB hard disk. I'm wanting Linux, OpenOffice and Firefox on it, but I have no real experience on non-Windows yet so I need some advice on where to start.
For more specifics on the machine it's a Club 65 Packard Bell with, as far as I know, only the memory upgraded.

I have an old computer; I'm running Windows ME. I tried downloading DivX, but it says it doesn't run on WIndows ME and it won't download so it won't harm my computer. Is there a player I can download off the net to play these files? THanks.
