I use X-machine, and each time I am on desktop typing something, a message, for 'update' pops up. If I do, then it will bulk up with other systems and wear out the computer. Is it advisable to carry on updating?

I have AVG antivirus , Spybot S+D , Ad-Aware and AOL spyware protection. I have scanned and when i first did i had something like 27,000 files infected with a Trojan Generic virus. Now it says i have deleted them all but i still have many problems for example:
-My pc is running extremley slow.
-My disc drive does not recognise any CD's.
-My programs freeze , and turn to 'not responding'.

I have already tried to defrag my drive , i have scanned the life out of it and supposedly deleted everything. But still detected by my AOL is something called Abetear A adware and i wonder if this is slowing my PC greatly. I would be greatly apreciative if you could help , Thankyou.

What is the "Backup and Restore" function? It says "Norton will automatically back up your files."

My brand new Lenovo3000 N100 laptop came with a 99 day free use of Norton Symantec Anti-virus program. After the free trial I will have to pay for it. Paying I dont mind, but I really hate paying with a credit card online. Is there any other way I can get Norton legally?

I bought a new computer, because my old one was tearing up. I had been told the mother board would be going soon, so when it started going really slow, constantly showing "This page cannot be displayed" errors, playing videos very slowly & freezing, I figured it was getting worse, so I got a BRAND new Dell PC. Only to find this one doing the SAME THING! The only difference is now, my virus scanner (which I also had on the old computer) keeps popping up messages to me. The most frequent one says "Inbound Malware Probe MyDoom In"...the most recent says "Intrustion attempt detected TCP High ports in". All of them say that my firewall has blocked them. I've also noticed (in the 4 days or so since I've had this computer), I've gotten a LOT of spam mail to my main email (not a yahoo acct, or such). What could have happened to cause this and how can I stop it? Is it some sort of virus or spyware or adware? A virus scan shows no viruses. But something is going on. Please help!

I paid Best Buy to fix my computer which had a host of problems. Most of the problems are fixed however it still shuts off all by itself. They said that there was only one solution to dix it and that was to wipe my system clean and reintall windows, etc. I don't have my disc for windows which they know. What can I do now? I want my money back because they didn't fix this problem. I called them and they were rude to me (I haven't asked for my money back). I've been on the phone almost everyday for the past week and a half and I've been having the problem since before I called.
