It's a male voice, and I've already tried scanning my computer with adaware, which didn't catch anything. Any advice?

that's a symptom of a virus

Run CCleaner first (just run it with the default settings). You'll get a better idea what infections you have when running anti-spyware scans. http://www.ccleaner.com/

you could do a Kaspersky online scan to find it and google the name for removal instructions/tools:

all of these are free:

Run CCleaner first (just run it with the default settings). You'll get a better idea what infections you have when running anti-spyware scans. http://www.ccleaner.com/

Spybot: http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html
After updating switch to advanced mode, to do so select “mode” from the toolbar and check “Advanced Mode”, it will ask if you want to switch modes, say “yes”. Now you have multiple tabs on the left of the screen, select the “tools” tab and click on the “IE Tweaks” icon. Make sure that you check “Lock Hosts file read-only as protection against hijackers”. After its updated select the “Immunize” icon, click on the green + to immunize your system. This will help prevent any new spyware/malware infestation by blocking new items. THIS MUST BE REDONE AFTER EVERY UPDATE SO THAT YOU ARE PROTECTED AGAINST THE LATEST THREATS.

Also scan with Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

AVG Anit-spyware: http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5

Also, Javacool Software's SpywareBlaster for resident protection: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

You can get BitDefender8 as an on-demand virus scanner:
http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-14-en--BitDefender-Free-Edition-v7.html

You don't want to run two resident anti-virus programs but using one as an on-demand scanner is fine.

What are you doing when the sound occurs? It's possible that the sound is embedded into a website, web ad, or pop up on a page that you visit frequently. A lot of banner ads and pop ups look innocent enough but actually contain sound files, even if there's no way to turn off the sound or any indication that the ad has sound attached to it.
