I am computer illiterate!! At present I have 2 standard computers connected to the internet. I have been offered an apple computer (free). I have an extra port in my router, but am not sure if an apple can be connected alongside my microsofts. Any advice appreciated

As sad as it is, I'm (by default) the system administrator. My last experience w/computers was Win' 98, and that wasn't pretty. Now I have a brand new system w/all the bells & whistles including Vista, and I'm lost! Those "Dummy" books just ain't cuttin' the mouseturds. I've had to do a system restore 2x already, and it's only a month old! I need LOTS of help figuring things out (preferably without unneccessary techno-jargon) before I do irrepareable damage to my files.

Please give some kind of answer if nobody has answered so itll stay on yahoo. Now my QUESTION is this: i recently ordered something from newegg.com and it sent a confirmation email to an email account i cant access. Hello, my pc is several years old and takes about 5-10 minutes to turn on. It gets stuck forever on the gateway screen, it makes me push enter on my login (even though there is only one user name and i don't have a password) and then it sits with the blue background for two more minutes before the desktop icons pop up.

Things I have done that haven't helped:
-defragmented
-deleted all unnecessary files (I have almost 90% of my harddrive free!)
-gone into the msconfig and made it so that almost nothing starts at the startup
-run virus scans, ad-aware, and anti-spyware


Any suggestions?
Will a registry cleaner help me? There are a couple of files that are on msconfig that I didn't touch because I don't know what they are...


Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!
