sometimes when i add a buddy, they do not show up on my list? why is that? anyway i can fix it?

As the happy owner of a new laptop I thought I'd star this question and work out a schedule for myself, download some more anti spyware and look after my new toy.

I started to cut and paste some of the better "thumbed" answers then realised that with 1578 answers I would be at it for days and at the end might still have dozens of conflicting opinions.

So should I just wait until the question closes for a best answer?

Should I just pick up on the more frequently mentioned actions/programs? (spybot & c cleaner etc.)

Should I stick with what came pre-installed and just cross my fingers?

Whilst I (usualy)love sarcasm and a flippant answer, I'm hoping one of the big brains will come across this and take pity on me by giving me a clear, succinct answer (with links attached)
for which I will be very, very grateful!

My mouse is wireless and optical and it's been working fine. I switched to another mouse for a week or so and it sucked so I wanted to go back to my wireless optical one, and it won't work. It has a little monitor thing that plugs into the "mouse" outlet in the computer, and I plug it in, but I can't remember how to get it to recognize my mouse. I have lost the user's manual also.

so im trying to put a scene from a dvd (greys anatomy) onto my computer. i have handbrake ( i have a mac) but im not exactly sure how to use it. i want a specific scene but i dont now how i can detect that scene on handbrake...if that makes scence. its only about 2min the scene and then i want to transfer it onto imovie. my question is how do i find that scene when using handbrake and does anyone have an tips for using handbrake as im not very technical and it seems like something i would like to keep using in the future- that is if i can understand it. soo any tips? thanks guys!!

I got about 40 gigs of free space on my computer, and it works very fast, on some sites, it only happens on some sites bebo when I log in also you tube when I log in plus some times on this site when I posting a question.

The only way I can get around it is by going on fire fox and logging in that way, any ideas what could be wrong with my computer

If there's an obscure song that I think would sound great as a MIDI file, is there an individual or group to whom I could submit it in hopes someone would listen to it and try to create a midi version?

I once tried to use a conversion program to convert a WAV recording of the song to a midi, but I didn't like the results. Part of the problem is that I don't know enough about the vocabulary of music to customize the results with the tools that were available.

Any feedback is welcome even if some would consider it annoyingly obvious.

Okay,
My Internet is being EXTREMELY slow
I'm trying to Download a file that is 6.8 Mb It's at 0%
I've been downloading this for over an hour....

Before today my internet was running at 54 Mb/s.....
and now it's going EXTREMELY slow

What's going on????

There are a few folders in one of my briefcases that refuse to be deleted. At all. It'll keep telling me "this file is being used by another person or program" but I have not a single program using it.

I can personally open up the folder, delete everything inside just fine, but the folder still won't delete.

I can't rename it, and it's just a useless folder bothering me for the longest time. I tried restarting and everything, but with no avail.

Can someone help me out on this?

Here is the story:
When I browse the intranet throught the connection in my room the speed is damn slow.I have to wait for more than five minutes to open websites which I searched with google or yahoo.Sometimes it doesn't open totally.
Then I took my pc to another connection line on the same appartment with the same connection type and it worked there.The speed is nice and I felt the problem is not with my PC.I also brought another PC and I tried it with my connection line.Surprisingly it works again and hence the problem is not with the connection line either.So I identified that the problem happens when the I tried to browse using my own computer and via the connection in my room.Does anybody know why this is happening? Please don't pass this question if you have something to say.

From the minute iturn on my computer,the hour glass becomes wedded to the pointer and will not leave its side through every click It goes where ever the pointer goes and I"M sure slows my computer if not worse..How do i divorce them?.the second question is-do I have to leave my computer on fora scan scheduled for1 in the morning.Will the scan occur if my computer was turned off.the third issue is :what free download is out there which will not only scan but eliminate viruses, spyware, adware, worms, trojans etc.

I print html and text emails all the time and cannot figure out a way to print them without the gmail logo and small header at the top. Surly there has to be away to just print the email message itself.

The logo and header takes up a lot of extra space and ink and sometime turns a nice 1 page email into a 2 pager.

Any help would be nice.

I have a altic lansing 120i pair of speakers. When i try to mess with volume options it says i have no mixer or somethin. And i plug my ipod into the speakers and it works, but not when it's plugged into my computer. Not the problem with this is these are plug and go, there's no instalation of drivers or anythin.. I am downloading 3 movies and right now its only uploading. Its not downloading anything and at the bottom of the screan it has a yellow triangle and says that there is no incoming connections and that could indicate a problem with your network configuration. What does that mean and how can I fix it? thanks
