My mouse is wireless and optical and it's been working fine. I switched to another mouse for a week or so and it sucked so I wanted to go back to my wireless optical one, and it won't work. It has a little monitor thing that plugs into the "mouse" outlet in the computer, and I plug it in, but I can't remember how to get it to recognize my mouse. I have lost the user's manual also.

Go to the mouse manufacturer's web site and download the Manual (and Drivers, if needed).

Take a look at the device manager which you'll find in the control panel under system. It should give you some indication as to why the mouse isn't working.. Could be a driver problem. then again, it could just need new batteries.
