This pc I'm tryin fix is HP Pavilion 7370V w/original OEM Win/95 that has a install program of W/ME that was on it when I was given it, but no CDs or other install info. I re-installed ME because of missing files, and it has IE 5.5 but it has probs. I dowlnloaded IE6 setup nad was planning on installing SP1 Serv Pck, but it stops at 85%, or on ocassion says previous attempt incomplete restart to finish, but then goes to 85%. ANY CLUES as to why?
Secondly, If I purchase Windows Student/Teacher Edition as an instructor (discount) and install it, will it install if I remove current OS and does it have complete Windows OS pkg or just office products. Can I install it and be able to access web, email, etc.?
(I tried Firefox didn't like and had probs, so not an option, thx.)

I can't send e-mail. I have done all I can think of. I have high speed cable internet, yet it takes a long time to process the e-mail AND it doesnt even send it! Other than that, everything else works fine. What can I do!!!

Damn why can't answers just be to the point? Why do people have to number their answers from 1-30 full page answers. Tweakers maybe? Maybe it's just me..however it is quite annoying when you want to read other answers.

internet protocal television, and Voip(voice over internet protocal), what do you think about them? what do you think will be the furture of them? How will they will affect us? what do you think will be the next thing that will be internet based(I personally have a hunch that computers themselves will be over the internet, meaning the storage, and software will be deliverd to your monitor via the internet, without wasting desktop space with the towers, and finger print protected)?

There are more than 200 residents here that are running their telephones and internet service off of OLD lines that often times go out, making it a problem. What would happen if there was an emergency requiring immediate attention and the phone lines were down? It is not like we live in the middle of nowhere. We live on a road that is a little over 3 miles long. Within a short distance from our road is SBC's largest corporate office and repair hub. I have talked with several of the residents here and all are disgruntled with dialup, operating at 28.8kbps, and having phone lines that are unreliable. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Messenger will go through all the install, then it isn't anywhere to be seen on my CPU. I have downloaded the install to my desktop,used the open then install off the web site too. I ask messenger to launch after install, but nothing- no icons, nothing in programs folders except a folder that says Yahoo. The only firewall I have is the automatic one that comes with bellsouth dsl. I have disabled all spyware, etc. from my start up menu. I have WInXp. When i try to use the messenger on the web, it won't let me add friends. Any suggestions?
