whenever iam on computer, the broadband works super fast and perfect, but i feel somewhere that the wires are not plugged in properly and the modem is connected to the CPU loosely. i have to always check and re-plug in everytime. how can i reduce this temptation?

I recently got limewire and am very happy with the software. However, someone told me that using limewire is not safe. Along with downloading songs and stuff, you can also end up downloading lots of viruses and crash ur computer and lose everything.
Is that true?
Are there any safeguards?
