A website is made using website software such as Frontpage, Dreamweaver, etc. Then you upload it via FTP to your web server. (Typically you contract with an ISP to host your web site and manage the technical details; they give you a server for you to put your stuff. You can also run your own server which may be cheaper and gives you more flexibility.) To use subdomains, you need to contact the administrator of the domain in question and ask him to add the subdomain to their DNS server.

How the website gains profit depends solely on your business plan. Typically you sell stuff at some amount over cost and if the difference covers your fixed expenses, you're golden. :-) Consult a business expert for the details of your particular business.

Details require details. You haven't provided a lot of details so it's hard for us to respond in kind. What is your business? What do you want to do on the website?

There is a lot involved, and it is probably too complex to adequately address in this response.

There is a great userforum at http://forums.totalchoicehosting.com that has a ton of activity and a ton of useful information about how you can get started with web hosting.

I'd recommend that you take your specific questions to a forum like that one and let experts address your specific questions and needs.
