Hardware - December 2007

My step mom just got a new computer with Vista pre-installed on it. We're trying to connect it to the internet at her home and it doesn't work. The computer recognizes and connects to the modem, but then it says that it can't connect to the internet. The internet is working perfectly as well as the modem.

I have my own laptop loaded with Vista and have had the same problem...I was some how able to finally change some setting and then my laptop works just fine. But I can't remember what I did to fix it. Any ideas?

can anyone in here tell me why my aol softwear gets disconnected when ever the phone hangs up or even when it rings and doesnt get answerd grrrr its a royal pain in the butt ,, i call aol they do a system check says all is working properly..
is this just a windows vista glitch then? my computer is barely 6 months old hp 320 gigabytes hard drive2048 bibytes memory its a intel graphics media accelattor 950 graphics hp pavillion a1740n model duo core if that helps any
comp usa i have a 3 year warranty contract too , its been in the shop at least 6 times already anyone know the problem i am experiancing here?? comp usa will son be out of buisness too so it wont be easy to get technical help as before.

I have a HP dvd840i burner in my computer that is about 1.5 years old. It worked fine until last week when it stopped sensing DVD disks of any kind. It still works normally for any kind of CD, but when I put any kind of DVD (commercially recorded video, or blank RW, etc.) it acts as if there is no disk no matter what I do. I have reinstalled the software and downloaded and installed the latest firmware but no changes.

when i put my photos on the computer it makes them look fat..this computer is bigger than my last..it has a long screen..and so it makes the pics look wide and not how they are supposed to look when i took it on digital camera or when i get a cd of pics! how do i fix this?

I am a college senior in my mid 20's, and I have an hp laptop but I like the sony pink laptops. I was thinking of getting one but someone said that pink laptops are for younger girls. Then someone else said that pink is just not cool although its a sony. What do you think? Would you buy a pink laptop? Am I too old? Im 24 by the way.

I recently bought an Acer Aspire 5315 it says it has 80gb HDD but when i open up the computer page it says there are 2 hard drives that are 32gb each, that is not 80. I have Vista if that helps

I want opinions. We all know that both AMD and Intel make "brains" for computers and many high-tech devices, and technology is still growing by the minute. So the following are a few reasons why I think this is possible.

1. AMD has an A, and Intel has an I.
2. Both are doing and inventing things that are getting near to Artificial Intelligence
3. The Word "Intel" can be found in the word "Intelligence"
4. Both have rumored to cooperate with each other
5. Things are developing which we don't know of inside them.

By these factors, I' m starting to think that Artificial Intelligence is coming sooner than we expected. Or, is this just pure coincidence. I really need your opinions.

I have a Dell Inspriron 9100. I want to upgrade my hard drive and my ram. Now do I need to use a certain kind of hard drive and ram? Will everything on my hard drive now transfer over to my new hard drive? I use this for work and home and have tons of programs and documents I would hate to start all over agian.

sometimes while working in my computer i get this error message
your internel driver has stopped working normally
please insert windows xp cd to reboot and press ok to reboot
then the computer gets stuck and i will have to press the off/on button and restart
how do i stop my computer from rebooting?
please help me?
