I have a Dell Inspriron 9100. I want to upgrade my hard drive and my ram. Now do I need to use a certain kind of hard drive and ram? Will everything on my hard drive now transfer over to my new hard drive? I use this for work and home and have tons of programs and documents I would hate to start all over agian.

Please let me know if you have any ideas?

Contact DELL for best advice on what ram etc you need.
MOST 2.5" hard drives should fit, but THINK carefully as installing a new drive will almost certainly mean reinstalling windows, all applications, and using an external drive cradle to get other data from old drive, UNLESS you back it all to DVDs

Alternatively IF you can locate a copy of a DISC CLONING tool that supports USB drive casings, you COULD use that to Image the drive over, BUT windows might see the hardware change as major and insist on a fresh "activation" of windows, a pain if legit, but not a major problem

Do go to the Dell Website and look up the specifications for your system to learn what type and how much ram it can take. Also find out if it will take single modules or if the ram must be installed on paired modules. Then get one of the many disk cloning programs in the market. You might still need to re-install some of your software.
