I bought a sony 4gb memory stick pro duo recently and connected it to the pc and checked the memory stick it said it had only 3.75 gb. So iam not sure if it's right or have i got a faulty one?

The usage of the word "gigabyte" is ambiguous, depending on the context. When referring to RAM sizes and file sizes, it traditionally 1 KB has a binary definition, of 1024 bytes. For other uses, it means exactly 1000 bytes.Nominal memory differs from actual. When they say 4 it's 3.75. You are not the only one confused.

I think most memory cards lose a little bit of the memory in formatting.

If it seems to be working ok, as in saving whatever you are trying to save, then I'd say it's not a faulty one.

No and no one elses does either.
The same holds true with any storage device you choose to use CD-DVD or MEM stick. The extra space is used for several other technical functions. A 4.7 gig DVD only gives you 4.25 of useable space.
