Sound like it is a problem with your DSL provider, not your computer or AOL. Contact Bellsouth/ATT and have them run a system check and come check the connections.

Some things to check :
FILTERS , does EVERY phone socket with a phone or other device attached have a DSL microfilter attached ? If not try unplugging anything without filters as a test, and reconnect once filters are sourced (Ask AOL or local PC shop)
PHONES, How many phones have you, could simply be that there are too many. A phone line can handle only so mnay phones. In UK the "REN" for a line is 4, and phones have an REN number under them. Add too much, and the voltages on the line have problems.
Also ensure the router/modem has a filter attached and you are connected to the DSL side.

If you check that and no luck, drop me an email with results and I can see if I can help further.

And not a sungle dig at AOhelL in the answer (Oh darn . . . lost it there)

who is your broadband provider? AOL?

If you are going highspeed through your phone line, check all your filters on the phones make sure they are connected. Or if you have extra ones change them out. If you dont have the phone filter on it, it interferes with the connection.

Vista isn't really designed to rundial up so yeah that might be the problem.

Get hard-wired (DSL) if you can - dial-up is a pain and is very slow.
